For many W-2 employees, they receive time off during federal holidays. These are days that you do not have to call off from work. This can immediately turn your 2 day weekend into a 3 day weekend. By taking requesting PTO strategically around those dates, you can turn your 2 day weekend into a 5 day vacation while only using 2 days or 16 hours of leave. If you don't have paid leave, consider easily accessible locations to do quick trips during your holiday breaks.
Tip: Don't forget to have your passport ready. It should not expire within 6 months to allow you to travel more freely. If your passport is about to expire, make sure to apply for renewal 6 months before the expiration date. Some countries may not let you in if you don't have more than 6 months left before your passport expires.
